By default, Arcserve UDP licenses will be auto-assigned as backups start.  This can often result in Incorrect license assignment.

E.g.  You may have 10 x UDP Advanced Edition per Server licenses which you want to assign to 10 Physical Windows Servers and 4x UDP Advanced Edition per Socket licenses which you intend to allocate to Hypervisor sockets in order to license VM's.    Auto assignment may result in the Physical servers being assigned the Socket based licenses leaving Server based licenses for VM's..

To avoid this from happening it is best to manually allocate licenses to systems that need specific licenses.    To manually allocate licenses, you may need to "Release" the license, then "Assign" to the correct node.

Release a License.

  1. In the UDP Console, Navigate to the License Management section.
  2. From the list of licenses, select the license type you want to Release.
  3. On the right hand side, select "Licensed Nodes" from the dropdown list.
  4. Select the node you want to release the license from & click the Release button.

Assign a License to an Unlicensed Node

  1. In the UDP Console, Navigate to the License Management section.
  2. From the list of licenses, select the license type you want to Assign.
  3. On the right hand side, select "Unlicensed Nodes" from the dropdown list.
  4. Select the node you want to assign the license from & click the Assign button.
